Last Friday, the Ministry of Culture of Chile organized a Seminar on Copyright and AI. The main speaker was openly pro-AI, speaking next to nothing about copyright. She even used AI images during her presentation, using the poor excuse of “I can’t draw, lol.”
When a fellow artist (a friend of mine) pointed out the contradiction of using AI images in a PPT about copyright, she played the victim card, saying, “I’m just a poor teacher,” and received thunderous applause in support. Mind you, she’s an important academic, and she doesn’t receive a regular teacher’s salary.
Safe to say, every artist watching this talk was pissed, and to this moment they’re still leaving comments in disgust on Instagram. It was quite a disappointing talk. Seems like they still don’t take artists’ rights seriously.
